Lisa Leath is the proud owner of Leath HR Group, a company based out of Wilmington, NC that serves clients across the country. Lisa has been the in field of Human Resources since March of 2008, and has worked with companies such as Corning Incorporated and Alcami prior to branching off and creating her own business. Both Leath and her husband have been recipients of the 40 Under 40 Awards by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, and Lisa is a member of several non-profit boards in the Cape Fear Region. In short:

“Lisa provides comprehensive, applicable and modern implementation of HR. Whether it be for start-ups or companies that have been established for decades, her knowledge and positivity make HR approachable and success achievable. Since first meeting her at a speaking engagement for WILMA two years ago, I have referenced her materials and approach in all HR applications.”

During this interview, Lisa shared several tips on building the right resume and what recruiters are specifically looking for. The biggest question to answer is “Why do I care?”. By that Leath means, when righting the bullets of what you did on your resume, ask yourself “so what”?. If you make the statement “I managed twelve employees”, add what you accomplished as a group immediately. For example “I managed a team of twelve employees and together we increased our sales capacity by 20%”.

Lisa also speaks about Linked In and Indeed.com. Each time you update your profiles you become more available and noticed by recruiters. Stay relevant as well. By that she means to always keep your information up to date. Have your coworkers or former employers endorse you on Linked In. Treat your page like your resume.

Finally, Lisa brought to my attention that our favorite design site Canva has templates for impressive resumes. She is not a fan of the resumes that showcase pictures, however this is very popular over in Europe. A strong headshot is never a bad thing to have on file either.

Lisa can be reach directly through her Linked In page if you have any additional questions regarding resume writing. Should you have a need for additional help recruiting the best candidate, or are simply ready to not deal with your own HR any further, her team can be reached here.
